ADHESIVE 101: CHOOSING THE RIGHT ADHESIVE FOR YOU
Lash extension adhesive is one of the most important parts of any set. The right glue supports strong retention and smooth application, while the wrong one can lead to poor results. If you’re unsure where to start, focusing on a few key factors will make choosing much easier.
Temperature and humidity also play a major role in how your adhesive performs. Most lash glues contain cyanoacrylate, which needs moisture in the air to cure properly. Without the right environment, bonding and retention can suffer.
Choosing the Right Adhesive
With so many adhesives on the market, you have the flexibility to explore and discover the perfect fit for both your technique and your client’s needs! When selecting a glue, consider color, drying time, viscosity, and fumes. These factors affect both your workflow and your client’s comfort.

Black Glue vs. Clear Glue
Black adhesives contain carbon black, which can increase fumes but gives a darker lash line. Clear adhesives are a better option for sensitive clients and are ideal when working with colored lashes.
Drying Time
Dry times range from very fast to slow. Beginners usually benefit from a slower adhesive (2–3 seconds), while experienced artists tend to prefer faster options (0.5–1 second) for efficiency.
Viscosity
This refers to how thick or thin the adhesive is. Thinner glues cure faster, while thicker ones take longer, so it often ties directly to drying speed.
Fumes
Fume levels vary by formula. If you or your client are sensitive, look for low-fume options. Good ventilation, an air purifier, or wearing a mask can also help reduce exposure. There are even scented adhesives to make the experience more comfortable!
Creating the Right Environment
For best results, aim for a temperature of 65–75°F and humidity between 45–65%. These conditions allow the adhesive to cure properly and improve retention.
- Low humidity: Slows curing time. You may need to hold lashes in place longer or use a humidifier.
- High humidity: Speeds up curing. This can cause the glue to set too quickly, so switching to a slower adhesive or using a dehumidifier can help.
Track your room’s temperature and humidity over time using a hygrometer. This will help you choose an adhesive that matches your environment. Keep in mind that seasonal changes can affect your conditions, so your ideal glue may change throughout the year.
