6 THINGS I WISH I KNEW AS A BEGINNER LASH TECH

As a beginner lash technician, stepping into the world of lash extensions can be both exhilarating and the learning curve can be steep. You're diving into a realm where precision, technique, and artistry converge to enhance the natural beauty of your clients. Through our own experiences, we’ve discovered some valuable lessons that I wish I had known when starting out. Here are six essential tips for those embarking on their lash tech journey:

1. Master Isolation
Isolation is the cornerstone of lash extension application. Ensuring that each natural lash is isolated individually not only enhances the overall aesthetic but also preserves the health of your client's lashes. Take the time to perfect your isolation technique before delving into the intricacies of lash application. Remember, precision is key!

2. Patience With Speed
In the fast-paced world of beauty, it's easy to feel the pressure to work quickly. However, speed will naturally develop with time and practice. Don't be disheartened if your initial sets take over three hours. Focus on delivering quality work, and speed will follow suit as your confidence and skill set grow.

3. Invest in a Hygrometer
Understanding the relationship between temperature, humidity, and adhesive performance is crucial. Investing in a hygrometer allows you to monitor the environmental conditions of your workspace accurately. Adjusting your adhesive usage according to humidity levels ensures optimal bonding and longevity of lash extensions. High humidity speeds up the adhesive drying process, while lower humidity slows it down.

4. Adhesive Care
Treat your adhesive with the utmost care to maintain its efficacy. Burp the adhesive bottle every time you dispense a new drop to prevent air bubbles and potential nozzle blockages. If the nozzle becomes too clogged, don't hesitate to replace it promptly. Remember, the integrity of your adhesive directly impacts the quality of your lash applications.

5. Neutralize Your Glue
While rare, adhesive-related incidents can occur. Neutralize your adhesive with water after you’re done with the appointment in case it comes into contact with cotton or any flammable material. Prioritize safety protocols to create a secure working environment for yourself and your clients.

6. Master the Lash Wrapping Technique
The lash wrapping technique is a game-changer when it comes to retention. By ensuring that each lash extension is seamlessly bonded and hugging around the natural lash, you can prolong the lifespan of the set and enhance overall satisfaction for your clients.

When first starting out,  it's natural to encounter challenges and setbacks along the way. However, each hurdle presents an opportunity for growth and refinement. By arming yourself with knowledge, practicing diligently, and embracing a mindset of continuous improvement, you can navigate the complexities of the lash industry with confidence and creativity. Remember, the journey to mastery is not a sprint but a marathon – embrace every step of the process and celebrate your progress along the way!
